The Take Charge campaign is under conviction that the constitutional making process should not be flawed and that all citizens should participate in a free enviroment without fear of harassment. This campaign is also worried that present legal instruments like Public Order and Security Act (POSA) will make it difficult for the general citizenry to participate freely. A constitution should be a unifying document, both the process and the content should all inclusive and should be viewed as independent of state manipulation. A constitution should never be contested but this can only happen if citizens are convinced that views and the process collecting views has been conducted in a sober and unbiased manner. The Take Charge campaign started in the first week of April, the focus was to expose the evils of the government led constitutional making process that seeks to establish the Kariba Draft as the basis for writing a new constitution. The Kariba Draft, is a draft constitutional document authored by three politicians namely Welshman Ncube of MDC -Mutambara, Tendai Biti of MDC- Tsvangirai and Patrick Chinamasa of ZANU PF. |
